History
Incorporated in 1973 as the Lutheran Chaplaincy Services (LCS) of the Lehigh Valley, LCS was initially designed to provide training to lay members of Lutheran congregations so that they could serve as visitors in hospitals, nursing homes and prisons throughout the Lehigh Valley.
Over the years, LCS’s mission gradually expanded to include working with congregations throughout the Northeastern Pennsylvania Synod to strengthen and widen our outreach within the community and the world.
Today, LCS consults with congregations, provides workshops for couples planning to be married, offers training for lay Eucharistic visitors, conducts a small group grief support ministry, coordinates disaster response work, and operates a new warehousing ministry that distributes supplies to people who live within Eastern Pennsylvania.
Lutheran Congregational Services joined the Liberty Family of Services in July 2010 and continues to develop and expand its ministries throughout the Northeastern and Southeastern Pennsylvania Synods of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America.
